Decatur, GA, January 30, 2020—Agnes Scott College is expanding its graduate degree offerings to include a Master of Science degree in data analysis and communication beginning in fall 2020.

The new program expands on the graduate degree programs and certificates offered at the college and meets a growing need among data scientists. Students enrolling in this program will take courses that explore topics in ethical use of technology and data, data analysis, and principles of data visualization, among others, and will be able to tailor their degree to their interests through select elective courses.

Pairing data analytics with communication and presentation skills is a crucial combination, and one that can enhance career and professional growth opportunities for students.

“In every organization, there are data that decision makers never see. Sometimes, there is no one to do the data analysis. Sometimes, there is no one to tell the data story,” said Wendy Kallina, faculty director. “This curriculum will give our students the competitive edge within this growing field.”

“Continued high job growth in the field of data analytics makes this an important time for Agnes Scott to offer this degree,” says President Leocadia I. Zak. “We are building on the success of our undergraduate and graduate programs by offering a new cutting-edge program that can prepare working professionals for success in an evolving economy.”

Like the existing graduate programs, the data analysis and communication master’s program includes interdisciplinary classroom instruction and flexible class schedules. The program is available to individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and is co-educational.

“Our aim is to develop graduate programs for curious and ambitious students who are ready to take on new challenges and grow as leaders in their fields,” said Kelly Ball, assistant dean for graduate and extended programs. “This new graduate program strengthens Agnes Scott’s innovative academic offerings.”

The growth of new academic programs also provides Agnes Scott opportunities to build new and strengthen existing relationships with community partners.
