Sweet Briar College and American Farmland Trust Partner to Support the Future of Women in Agriculture

Sweet Briar College and American Farmland Trust have agreed to collaborate on a number of programming initiatives that will support the future of women in agriculture, natural resource management and conservation.

Beginning with the 2020 - 2021 school year, plans include a conference on agriculture in Virginia, AFT leaders speaking at the College, internship opportunities at AFT, the College hosting an AFT Women for the Land Learning Circle for the Mid-Atlantic region and future opportunities to partner on scientific and social science research.

Agnes Scott College Offers New Master of Science Degree in Data Analysis and Communication Beginning Fall 2020

Agnes Scott College is expanding its graduate degree offerings to include a Master of Science degree in data analysis and communication beginning in fall 2020.

The new program expands on the graduate degree programs and certificates offered at the college and meets a growing need among data scientists. Students enrolling in this program will take courses that explore topics in ethical use of technology and data, data analysis, and principles of data visualization, among others, and will be able to tailor their degree to their interests through select elective courses.

Meredith College Celebrates a Symposium to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote

Meredith College is pleased to announce Snapshot 20/20, a symposium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The event will kick off with a keynote address on April 2, 2020 and offer concurrent panels and a range of activities with community partners through April 5, 2020.

As the centenary of women’s suffrage approaches, the National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) will launch a six-month commemorative initiative, Determined to Rise: Women’s Historical Activism for Equal Rights, at Wesleyan College, Thursday, January 30, 2020. Each event in the series will feature scholarly panels, public events, and lively discussions on women’s history topics from the early 1830s when African-American women abolitionist groups organized to fight for freedom, personhood, and women’s rights, to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

Simmons University to Host ‘Gwen Ifill USPS Stamp Celebration: Honor and Action’ Event on Campus

Simmons University will honor the late journalist Gwen Ifill, one of the institution’s most distinguished alumnae, with a “Gwen Ifill USPS Stamp Celebration: Honor and Action” event on February 4, 2020.

During the event, there will be an unveiling of the new 43rd postage stamp in the Black Heritage Series for the Simmons community, which features the trailblazing journalist. Attendees will also have the opportunity to honor Ifill’s legacy by participating in a “Reasons to Write” session, where they can write messages to friends, mentors, alumnae, civic leaders, and members of the community using the new Gwen Ifill Forever Stamps.

Women's Colleges and Universities - strong showing in 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best College Rankings Report

The spotlight is on the recent national college rankings, and our Women’s College Coalition member institutions are shining! We have the Washington Monthly College Rankings Report and the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best College Rankings Report that both portray a strong showing of women’s colleges and universities. The just released U.S. News & World Report includes nearly 75 percent of our membership (29 of 39) ranked in the top tier of several national and regional categories. The diversity of women’s colleges represented is an affirmation of our commitment to inclusive excellence. We have so much to be proud of in these rankings. Congratulations to all of our member schools on their amazing work and well deserved recognition!
