Gloria Vasquez Brown (Texas Woman's University ‘67), Vice President for Community Affairs, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas |
"I absolutely love Robert F. Kennedy’s famous talk to the youth of South Africa in 1966. He talked about individuals who stand up for ideals or act to improve the lives of others and referred to them as tiny ripples of hope that join to build a current that can change the world. Dear graduates, every one of you represents one of those ripples of hope. You don’t have to perform grandiose acts. A teacher who encourages and guides her students. A young professional who volunteers to deliver meals. A person who donates blood, tutors a child or volunteers at a food pantry. A Big Brother or Big Sister who mentors a young girl or boy. These are all ripples with the potential to swell into a tidal wave of actions propelling our communities into a new dimension of civic leadership and growth and prosperity." |
