We don’t need women in the room to watch and listen, we need them to speak and to act. And so, here Agnes Scott class of 2011, this is where you come in. You’ve been given every opportunity and advantage. You’ve had the best teachers and experiences. You are bright and you are talented. And now, it’s your moment. There is no comparison between the girls who arrived on campus four years ago and the women who proudly sit before us today. Take your Agnes Scott mission statement to heart and choose to lead. As you travel those miles, think deeply, live honorably and yes, engage the intellectual and social challenges of your time. It is easier to make a difference than most people realize. You don’t need to take the whole world on at once. Start where you are, do whatever you can. Because you are graduating at a time of enormous possibility. And the world greatly needs your talents, your values, your creativity. Remember what Mahatma Gandhi said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world." |
