Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran said the governor was mailed one copy of the magazine with a note from the editor about a week early. "She thought it was a stunning photo and a great article, and she thinks it was very good for Kansas," Corcoran said. |
The three and a half page spread features Sebelius in an Oscar de la Renta dress in the governor's office. The article points out the Democrat's popularity in a traditionally Republican state and her success as the Democratic Governors Association chairwoman. "Altered States" also features Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a Republican who took office in 2006. The article discusses Palin's efforts to clean up corrupt political and business practices taking place in her state. Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 6130 S.W. 17th, has a special display of the issue at the front of the store, but few are left of the original 33 stocked, manager Josh Michael said. Fewer than five were left as of 6 p.m. Thursday. Michael said the store has ordered more copies and may receive additional ones if the company has enough in stock. He said the majority of customers who are purchasing this month's issue of Vogue are buying it specifically because Sebelius is featured. Corcoran said a few constituents had called to say they had seen the article and were proud of the governor. Sebelius was the only one in her office to get an early copy, though. Concoran said her staff members had to wait like everybody else. "When people heard it was out today, they went on lunch and picked up a few copies," Concoran said. ### |
