The implications of teen sleep deficits

Smith sophomore, Grace McKay-Corkum, who studies circadian rhythms and sleep with Smith Professor Mary Harrington, reports on recent sleep research in light of proposals to change school start times in Northampton, MA to a later hour.

It has been widely acknowledged that chronic sleep deficits in teenagers have negative effects, including increases in anxiety and depressive moods. A lack of sleep in adolescents may have even graver consequences, however.
