Laurie Priest, Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics at Mount Holyoke College since 1989, has been named one of "The 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America" by the Institute for International Sport.
In addition to her numerous responsibilities at Mount Holyoke, Priest has also published many articles and is a frequent presenter at conferences. She has also received several awards for her contributions to women's athletics. MORE » |

“When I learned science, it was through doing sets of experiments, like following recipes out of a cookbook,” recalls Dr. Cindy Norton, Endowed Professor in the Sciences at the College of St. Catherine in Minnesota. “Over the past 15 years, things have changed, though,” she adds. “Science is now more inquiry based and more relevant to students.”

It's not clear just why mathematical craftwork has suddenly taken off, says sarah-marie belcastro, a mathematician at Smith College in Northampton (Mass.), who organized the exhibit with Carolyn Yackel. Last year when Professor Denny Partridge, Barnard's Alice B. Pels Professor of Theatre, was awarded a Mellon New Directions Fellowship to create new theater coursework and touring opportunities, she found a way to combine her 30-year background in professional theater with social activism by developing "Theatre in the Community."
