Presidents of the Women’s College Coalition (WCC) met with the White House Office of Public Engagement, White House Gender Policy Council, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Space Council and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to mark the historic start of the first federal partnership with women’s colleges and universities.

Under Secretary of Defense Joins Women’s College Presidents in Announcing Strategic Partnership to Address Federal Workforce Needs

Presidents representing the Women’s College Coalition (WCC) met with Under Secretary of Defense for Engineering and Research, Heidi Shyu at the Pentagon to announce a strategic partnership to recruit women’s college STEM students for the Department’s SMART Scholarship program. The October 26, 2023 meeting launched the first ever Department of Defense initiative with the WCC, who represents 30 women’s colleges in the U.S.

Seven WCC Institutions Awarded NASA Funding to Address the Gender Gap in STEM Fields

NASA's Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) will award more than $5 million in funding to 7 Women's Colleges and Universities to research and advance solutions to close the gender gap for women in STEM.

This funding opportunity is a direct result of the White House Executive Order 14035 “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce.”

House Cardinals Presented with WCC Excellence in Women’s Leadership and WCC Lifetime Achievement Award

On September 20th, we had the pleasure of joining together with a dynamic group of Women’s College Coalition (WCC) presidents to recognize four House Cardinals for their historic efforts to fortify women’s colleges. During a beautiful luncheon served in the Ernest S. Petinaud room of the Capitol, the WCC honored Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Barbara Lee, and Betty McCollum with the WCC Excellence in Women’s Leadership award. To Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard, we presented the WCC Lifetime Achievement Award for her devoted career advancing the lives of the underserved.

House Committee Advances Appropriations Bill to Help America’s Women’s Colleges

The House Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) passed its annual appropriations bill and it included language recognizing the long-time role the nation's women's colleges and universities play in advancing postsecondary diversity and inclusion for underserved populations while creating unique educational opportunities to empower women. This is the first time that women's colleges have been noted in such a way in proposed Federal legislation. 

WCC Mourns the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The Women's College Coalition joins the nation in mourning the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Justice Ginsburg was a leader whose words and actions changed the lives of women across generations. She changed our lives – and the lives of our alumnae, our students and our colleagues.

Tomorrow – and always – we will honor this tremendous loss by pursuing the mission and dream of a world where justice flows down like water. We will all walk humbly, seek mercy, and act justly. And, we will educate women in pursuit of a more perfect union that values us all.

Women’s College Coalition Hosts Town Hall With U.S. Rep. Karen Bass
